COP26 & New York Times // an immersive vision of a better future

The world's eyes were on Glasgow for Cop26, where global leaders gathered to focus on solutions to the climate crisis. With much of the focus on the energy transition, there was a need to raise awareness of the role of the circular economy in addressing climate change, by eliminating waste, keeping things in use, and regenerating nature. To cut through the noise and deliver a message that resonated with industry, governments and the public, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation partnered with the New York Times and Kite Insights to host a circular economy café in the New York Times Climate Hub. The café allowed people to see, taste, smell and enjoy products designed and made using circular economy principles. In addition, the space was used to host filming and education events.
In addition to partnering on the café, the Foundation brought together leaders from businesses for a series of on stage panel sessions with New York Times journalists. This included Philipp Hildebrand, vice chairman of BlackRock, and former Danone CEO and International Sustainability Standards Board chairman Emmanuel Faber.
